GTA is no longer a game. It's a negotiation room for organized criminal groups.
A Turkish organized crime group used GTA and Fortnite not for entertainment, but for recruiting fighters and planning crimes. Instead of messengers – in-game chats. Instead of offices – virtual locations.
The scheme was meticulous: accessing games from mobile phones without SIM cards, connecting only to public Wi-Fi – in cafes, shopping malls, transport. No geolocation, minimal traces, maximum anonymity. For the investigation – a quest of increased difficulty.
Games are still perceived as a "children's zone." Less suspicion, less control, live communication by voice and text, which can easily be disguised as gameplay.
And here's an important point for parents and teenagers: if you think people are "just chatting" in a game, it's not always the case. Online games have long become a full-fledged social environment – and scammers and criminals understood this before many adults.
