The branch "DEU №37" of RUP "Vitebskavtodor" currently has over nine thousand tons of sand-salt mixture and 1400 tons of salt in stock for ice prevention and road traffic accident prevention. This is mainly waste from the production of potash fertilizers in Salihorsk, therefore it is relatively inexpensive, convenient and effective for use on highways. However, such anti-icing materials are very aggressive in their effect on car body surfaces and other metal parts of vehicles. As reported by Igor Gardeyev, chief engineer of DEU №37, for example, in Sweden, granite chips, which are mined in large quantities in the Scandinavian mountains, are also used for better grip of car tires with asphalt concrete road surfaces and active ice prevention, therefore it is affordable for local road workers. For Belarus, which is poor in natural mineral deposits, including granite, the use of this material is impossible for financial reasons.
