The name of the best student in Belarus will be announced on December 10

The final of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union's "Student of the Year - 2019" contest will be held in Minsk on December 10, Yulia Zinkevich, Secretary of the BRYU Central Committee, told a BELTA correspondent.

"The final of the popular republican project 'Student of the Year - 2019' will take place at the Minsk City Palace of Culture on December 10. Ten winners of the qualifying rounds will participate in the most colourful and long-awaited student show - two from the Vitebsk region, four will represent the students of the Brest, Gomel, Grodno and Mogilev regions. The capital will be represented by the same number," said the Secretary of the BRYU Central Committee.

According to her, 50 qualifying rounds of the contest were held this year - university, regional and Minsk city rounds. A total of 270 students from 44 higher education institutions of Belarus took part in them.

Spectators and jury will be presented with the student presentation "Nice to Meet You", as well as intellectual and public speaking contests "#InTheProfession". "The intellectual competition this year is distinguished by the fact that the participants will have to present one of the youth union's projects. The competition task involves the finalists drawing various items associated with a particular BRYU project from a black box. Their task is to present this project in one minute," explained Yulia Zinkevich.

The finalists will arrive in Minsk on December 5. "A rich programme has been prepared for them. For example, on the day of arrival, they will visit the exhibition project 'Museum of Christmas Tree Decorations' and a master class on their creation at the National Historical Museum of Belarus, as well as the show programme 'In Style' at the Youth Estrada Theatre. On December 6, an excursion to the National Library is planned for the finalists, as well as a meeting with the director of this institution, Roman Motulsky, and the Deputy Minister of Information, Igor Buzovsky. The theme of the meeting is the role of books in the lives of young people, as well as modern forms of promoting reading - bookcrossing and booktrailer," noted the project coordinator.

The students will not arrive in Minsk empty-handed. "Each of them will bring a book by a Belarusian author, from which a book-crossing shelf will be formed in the library. On Saturday, December 7, our finalists will visit the TV show "Makaenka, 9". On December 8, a student gathering "Discover Yourself" is planned for the participants at the Resource Centre for Support of Youth Initiatives "Stupeni", where a meeting with the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the BRSM, member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus of the seventh convocation, Dmitry Voronyuk, will take place. Master classes in public speaking and acting, as well as a leadership development training, will also be organised here. And in the evening, the participants will attend the home match "Dinamo" Minsk - CSKA," emphasised Yulia Zinkevich.

The winner of the "Student of the Year" title will be the finalist who scores the highest number of points based on the results of all challenges. In addition, according to tradition, the winner in the "Student of the Year Online" nomination will be determined by users of the virtual network through voting for the contestants' original video clips on the theme "I am a student!". Voting will start on December 6 in the official BRSM group on the social network "VKontakte" and on the Instagram account.

"I would like to note that all finalists are recipients of special scholarships, participants in scientific conferences, subject Olympiads, competitions, contests, festivals, and have an average academic score of no less than 8.5. They are actively involved in public activities," summarised Yulia Zinkevich.

The student project, organised by the BRSM since 2011 with the support of the Ministry of Education and other interested parties, is aimed at developing leadership qualities and the creative potential of student youth, and creating conditions for their self-realisation in public activities, science, art, and sports. It promotes student initiatives and projects, enhances the prestige of knowledge, and popularises professions.-0-
