During the preliminary and judicial investigation, it was established that a resident of Vitebsk city, while driving a technically sound "MAZ 457043 AZMA-2-5.1" vehicle, travelling on the 155th km of the Minsk-Vitebsk highway in the direction of Vitebsk city through the territory of Lepel city, failed to maintain constant control over the road situation, exhibiting criminal negligence, and took no measures to reduce speed or stop his vehicle. As a result of the road traffic accident and the driver's negligent actions, the victim sustained grievous bodily harm, from which she died at the scene.

The court of Lepel district found the resident of Vitebsk city guilty of committing a crime stipulated by Part 2 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus and imposed a sentence of imprisonment for a term of 2 years, with a ban on engaging in activities related to the operation of all types of vehicles for a term of 5 years.

In accordance with Part 1 of Article 78 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, the court ruled not to enforce the main sentence of imprisonment for a term of 2 years, provided the accused does not commit a new crime.

In accordance with Part 5 of Article 78 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, the convicted person is obliged to pay a criminal legal compensation to the state revenue in the amount of 40 base units, which corresponds to 920 Belarusian rubles, within six months after the sentence enters into legal force.
