Belarus's IT experience is important for cooperation in intellectual property protection

Belarus's experience, particularly in the IT sector, is important for international cooperation in intellectual property protection. This was stated in an interview with the "Belarus 1" TV channel by the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Francis Gurry, as reported by BELTA.

"We discussed in detail the areas of cooperation that we will be working on in the long term. We talked about nanotechnology, which can improve living conditions," said Francis Gurry. "Intellectual property is of great importance to withstand, and even better, to win the race for competitiveness. Competition in high-tech is fierce. We see tension regarding the use of these technologies. In this situation, I believe, we cannot do without international cooperation. This is also the position of the Belarusian side."

Regarding the patenting of international inventions, the head of WIPO noted that since 2015, the organization has begun receiving applications related to artificial intelligence, and their number is increasing every year. "Today, there are gaps concerning big data. For example, who should be the owner of this data. There are many issues that need to be discussed at the level of international cooperation. In this regard, we are interested in the experience of the Hi-Tech Park and Belarus as a whole," added Francis Gurry.

He also listed the main modern trends based on information technologies: robotics, blockchain, artificial intelligence. "And Belarus is highly regarded in the world here," concluded the head of WIPO.

Francis Gurry's visit to Belarus takes place from June 3-5. His itinerary includes meetings with officials and a speech at the opening of a regional seminar on current aspects of intellectual property rights.
