On June 14, Vitebsk /Sergey Kochetov - BELTA/. Scientists from the Institute of Technical Acoustics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus have become co-founders of the International Association for the Processing of Materials by External Fields, which is being established with the participation of leading physicists from Russia and China. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Vasily Rubanik, Director of the Vitebsk Institute, who has been elected Vice-President of the association. Among the founders of the international association are representatives of more than 10 higher education institutions and research centers from three countries. The main goal of the international organization is to consolidate the activities and creative potential of scientists to solve pressing problems in the field of studying the external energy impact on metals, alloys, and other materials. The first constituent assembly of the association took place within the framework of the III International Conference "Fundamental and Applied Aspects of the Influence of External Fields on Materials," which was held at the end of May in Shenzhen, China. Professor G. Tang from the Institute of Advanced Materials of Tsinghua University (Shenzhen) was elected President of the association. Today, the issue of improving the structure of materials and their functional properties has become particularly relevant due to increasing demands on them, which in turn is caused by increased loads, for example, on metals used in aircraft construction. Modern technologies for processing materials using external energy impact allow solving these problems, explained Vasily Rubanik. For instance, scientists at the ITA specialize in studying the effect of ultrasonic vibrations on metals, which not only improves their properties but also leads to the development of new materials. Energy methods also include the impact of electric current, magnetic fields, electron beam processing of materials, severe plastic deformation, and a number of others. Scientists and researchers who have become members of the association have not only extensive experience and traditions in developing this research area but also scientific discoveries recognized and adopted by specialists worldwide, noted Vasily Rubanik.

Cooperation of researchers from three countries within the framework of an international association will allow for the implementation of joint projects and coordination of scientific research directions on pressing issues of external energy impact on materials. Furthermore, the association members intend to exchange achievements and promote the implementation of modern material processing technologies. Within the association, it is planned to organize academic exchange of specialists and young scientists. The association's headquarters will be located in Vitebsk, based at the Institute of Technical Acoustics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. This decision was made by the association members, taking into account the merits of the Belarusian scientific school, noted Vasily Rubanik.

The Institute of Technical Acoustics was founded in Vitebsk in 1975. Today, the institute is a leading scientific organization in Belarus in the field of plasticity and metal processing under the influence of powerful ultrasonic vibrations. The main direction of the institute's scientific activity is the study of the physics of concentrated energy flows (ultrasound, laser, ion-plasma radiation) impact on condensed media. Scientists of the institute are developing methods and high-energy technologies for obtaining functional and special-purpose materials.
