The Prosecutor's Office of Lepel District supported the state prosecution in court in a criminal case against a 36-year-old resident of Lepel. He is charged with violating fire safety requirements, which negligently resulted in a fire causing less severe bodily injuries.
During the court investigation, it was established that on August 8, 2023, while intoxicated, the accused was lighting a barbecue grill in the yard of his residence. Failing to exercise due care and foresight, and violating fire safety requirements, he used gasoline to ignite the grill. While pouring it onto the grill, he spilled some on the jeans of the victim standing nearby. When the wooden chips caught fire, the victim's clothing also ignited, resulting in her sustaining burns to her right lower leg and foot, grades 2-3, which are classified as less severe bodily injuries.
Non-compliance with basic fire safety requirements led to the victim sustaining burns.
Taking into account the evidence presented by the state prosecutor, the Lepel District Court rendered a guilty verdict. Pursuant to Part 2 of Article 304 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, the 36-year-old resident of Lepel was sentenced to one year of correctional labour, with ten percent of his earnings from his primary place of employment to be withheld and paid to the state.
The verdict has not yet entered into legal force due to the filing of an appeal protest.
