On May 21, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Prominent people of the Vitebsk region will recite works by Belarusian authors from the television screen, Vladimir Terentyev, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, informed a BELTA correspondent. The literary project, whose working title is still under discussion, is timed to coincide with the Year of Books and will launch on local television in early June. Its essence is that authoritative and respected personalities in the region will read their favourite works by Belarusian authors in a television studio. The recording will be carried out by the "Vitebsk" radio and television company, and then broadcast on the local TV channel and on television screens in the city centre. The project aims to popularise Belarusian authors and instill a culture of reading. "The example of distinguished people is very important for such popularisation," believes Vladimir Terentyev. Among the first participants of the project are an Honoured Teacher of Belarus, a People's Artist of Belarus, the Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, the General Director of a major enterprise, and a journalist. They will read works by both classics of Belarusian literature and contemporary authors. The recording of the programme will begin in the near future. -0-
