January 9, Lepel /Own. inf./. Recently, the soldiers of the 231st Artillery Brigade, stationed in Borovka, celebrated the anniversary of their military unit – the 30th anniversary of its formation. Many distinguished guests were invited.
The 231st Artillery Regiment was formed in December 1972, was part of the 7th Tank Army, and its first commander was Colonel Alexei Suprunchuk. Initially, the unit was armed with conventional guns, and in the mid-1980s, it was re-equipped with self-propelled artillery.
During its existence, the regiment underwent various processes: rearmament, relocation, reorganisation, but its hallmark has always been high combat readiness, excellent maintenance of equipment, and discipline. All these qualities were repeatedly demonstrated during field exercises, training, and manoeuvres, both independently and in cooperation with units and formations of other branches of the armed forces.
In the early 2000s, the 231st Artillery Regiment was reorganised again, this time into an artillery brigade, and in this capacity, the unit celebrated its thirtieth anniversary. For this significant date, a commemorative sign was erected at the unit – a gun on a pedestal. Simple and symbolic. The solemn opening of the monument was timed to coincide with the anniversary.
The guest who had the high honour of opening the commemorative sign was the first commander of the unit, retired Colonel Vasily Alekseevich Suprunchuk. After a short rally and the march of the parade units, the epicentre of the celebration moved to the club. There, many warm words were spoken from the solemn rostrum in honour of the artillery soldiers.
Guests included the Commander of the North-Western Operational Command, Major General Andrei Ravkov, the Head of the Military Sanatorium, Mikhail Lyakh, and former commanders and officers of the brigade.
Warm words were also spoken by the Chairman of the District Executive Committee, Boris Efremov.
The servicemen were presented with many interesting and useful gifts, distinguished servicemen were awarded diplomas and commendations from the command, and conscripts received additional days of leave.
After the completion of the solemn part, the celebration continued with a performance by the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Armed Forces of Belarus.
