On the eve of the Unified Greening Day and the launch of the "Give the Forest New Life" campaign, a press conference was held where experts discussed upcoming events.
As reported by Marina Galich, Head of the Department for Control over Protection and Use of Land, Subsoil, and Biodiversity of Specially Protected Natural Territories of the Vitebsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, greening activities in settlements are actively underway in the region. This year, the plan for planting shrubs, trees, and flowers has been increased by approximately 10% compared to 2024.
– In total, 38 thousand trees and 28 thousand shrubs are planned for planting in 2025. Much has already been done: 28 thousand trees and over 21 thousand shrubs have been planted, – emphasized Marina Galich. – For instance, a public garden was established in Chashniki, and a memorial alley was laid out in Glubokoye, where over 300 fir saplings were planted.
Tomorrow in Vitebsk, plantings will take place in the Park of the 1000th Anniversary, near the Square of the Flag and Emblem. 100 lime trees will be planted. In Polotsk, the creation of a park zone on the Mound of Immortality will continue, and cherry and pine alleys will appear in Dokshitsy.
Yuri Apalko, Head of the Forestry and Reforestation Department of the Vitebsk State Forestry Association, spoke about the "Give the Forest New Life" campaign, which is being held in Belarus from October 11 to 31.
– The initiator of the campaign is the Ministry of Forestry. It is aimed at popularizing the forestry sector and restoring damaged areas of the forest fund, including those affected by strong winds. It is planned to restore forests on an area of about 150 hectares in the region, as well as to supplement previously established forest stands on an area of at least 2 thousand hectares. Approximately 2 million seedlings and saplings of the main forest-forming species will be planted: pine, spruce, birch, as well as oak, ash, and maple, – noted Yuri Apalko. – The campaign will be held in all 18 forestry enterprises. To participate, please contact your nearest forestry enterprise. Objects have also been designated where you can simply carry out landscaping, collect litter, and tidy up, contributing to the improvement of forest areas.
The press conference discussed plans and current work on landscaping the regional center. As Valentina Shendyukova, Director of the State Enterprise "Vitebsk Zelenstroy", stated, about 125 thousand tulips are planned to be planted in the city this year: 87.6 thousand in the city center (in the area of Victory Square and the Square of 1000th Anniversary) and 50 thousand on Freedom Square. In total, about 1 million 200 thousand flowers, including bulbous plants, will be planted in the city during the season.
