Svetlana Astanina, Head of the Tourism and Sports and Health Improvement Sector of the Department of Sports and Tourism of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, spoke at the press conference "Event Tourism: Holding Festivals, Holidays and Thematic Events" in the press centre of BELTA about what festivals Vitebsk region will surprise visitors with in 2023.
"Thanks to its rich cultural heritage, a large number of various events are held in the region. The region hosts 13 international festivals, four national ones, and over 40 regional events. The most famous among them are 'Cranes and Cranberries of Miory Land', 'Braslav Dawns', the medieval culture festival 'Sword of Brachislav', and 'Viva Braslav'," noted Svetlana Astanina.
She also spoke about the events that will take place this year in Vitebsk region. "For the third time, the Ushachi District will host the extreme sports festival 'Extreme Breakthrough'. Last year, compared to the previous one, it attracted four times more visitors. The festival is spectacular and interesting for both children and adults. It is a young but quite promising event," the specialist pointed out.
Another young festival, which will be held for the second time in August in the Postavy District, is "Special, Like Everyone Else". "It will be organised at the 'Ozery' sports and tourism complex for people with disabilities. Applications for the festival are already starting to come in," said Svetlana Astanina. "Also, many festive events are held at this complex, including New Year's, Christmas, Easter, Kupala Night, etc.".
In addition, a large regional potato dish festival, "Bulba - Kartoshka - Potatoes", will be held in August.
The Government, under the state programme "Belarus is Hospitable", has approved a sub-programme for tourism development in the Vitebsk Poozerye for 2023-2025. It includes seven districts. "Within the framework of the sub-programme, the Verkhnedvinsk District plans to hold the ecological festival 'Osvye Dews'," she added.
