Most often, potential candidates for deputies choose nomination by collecting signatures, about 70% of them; about 28% of the total number of all contenders for a deputy seat have been nominated by work collectives; from political parties - 1.8%. Two or all three methods can be used for nomination.
Six parties have nominated their candidates for deputies so far: the Belarusian Agrarian Party, the Belarusian Left Party "A Just World", the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada), the Communist Party of Belarus, the Liberal Democratic Party, and the Republican Party of Labour and Justice.
According to the Central Election Commission, at the moment, among the nominated candidates, more than 4 thousand, or almost 52.5%, are deputies of the current convocation; 337 young people (under 30 years of age) account for approximately 4.4% of the total number of nominees. Women are showing greater activity in the election campaign, with over 4 thousand of them among the contenders for deputy positions, about 52.7%.
As for the spheres of activity, the largest number of nominees are representatives of education, culture, science and healthcare (almost 32%), and agriculture (20.9%).
The period for nominating candidates for deputies started on December 10 and will end on January 8. Local elections will be held in Belarus on February 18. In total, slightly more than 18 thousand mandates will be distributed.
