The film programme opens today at the XXI International Festival of Arts "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk", the forum's directorate informed a BELTA correspondent. The permanent film centre of the festival is the House of Cinema - the oldest cinema in Vitebsk and in Belarus, located in the historical centre of the city in a building which is an architectural monument of the late 19th - 20th centuries. This year, the film project includes five feature films, which will be presented by their creators - directors or actors. The programme will be opened by the feature film "Lonely Island" (Belarus, Latvia, Estonia) directed by Peeter Simm (Estonia). The film, which will be presented at 16:00 by actress Valeriya Arlanova (Belarus), tells about the life of people in a big city, which holds many mysteries. For example, a literary critic professor cannot find common ground with his son, a diesel locomotive driver. The relationship between a young teacher and a high school student - the son of an Estonian taxi driver and a Belarusian flight attendant - is not developing easily. Two friends, former fellow sailors, are in love with the same woman, and all three are unable to break the long-standing love triangle. A little ballerina, confined to a wheelchair, torments her mother, considering her the cause of her misfortune... It is not easy for the characters to unravel the subtle threads of complex relationships, and only a sincere desire to understand and forgive themselves, as well as those around them, can help them. On the Day of the Union State, at the same time, viewers will be able to see the film "The House" (Russia). According to the plot, in a large house, in the middle of the Don steppes, lives the Shamanov family. There is everything in this house except peace, love, and mutual understanding. Fathers conflict with children, children with fathers and with each other. The eldest son, Viktor, returns to his father's house after a 25-year absence. He does not yet know that a group of professional killers is following him closely.
