On September 11, Vitebsk /Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. Every fourth candidate for deputy in the Vitebsk region has exercised the right to receive additional funds for their election campaign. Twelve out of 49 registered candidates have opened special election accounts at branches of OJSC "Savings Bank "Belarusbank". This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the organizational and personnel work department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. Judging by the number of special accounts opened, candidates in the Polotsk City Electoral District No. 28 intend to show the greatest campaigning activity. Here, all three contenders have used their right to top up their election funds. In the Vitebsk-Chkalovsky Electoral District No. 18, Novopolotsk No. 25, and Sharkovshchinsky No. 29, two contenders for a deputy seat have opened special accounts, and in Vitebsk Rural No. 21, Lepel No. 23, and Orsha City No. 26, one candidate each. The opportunity for candidates for deputies of the House of Representatives to open special accounts and thus form election funds has appeared for the first time. Citizens and legal entities can direct funds to candidates' accounts for conducting election campaigns. The size of the funds is limited to 1,000 base units, which currently amounts to Br100 million. These funds can be used for printing additional runs of campaign leaflets. From the additional fund, candidates can pay for airtime on television and radio, and purchase print space in newspapers. The presence of a special election account imposes additional responsibilities on the applicant for a deputy mandate. According to the law, the candidate or their financial representative must submit a financial report to the district election commission twice during the election campaign: the first report from September 7 to 12 inclusive, and the second (final) report no later than September 27. In addition, unused funds must be returned to depositors no later than three days after the elections. The status of the special account is not secret to the voter. District commissions are obliged to regularly provide the media with information on the receipt and expenditure of funds credited to the candidate's fund. According to the official website of OJSC "SB "Belarusbank", currently, across Belarus, 74 candidates for deputies of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the fifth convocation have opened special election accounts. -0-
