5 January, Minsk /BELTA/. The State Security Committee of Belarus has recorded a hacker attack on the information resources of national mobile operators MTS and Velcom in the form of anonymous SMS messages sent to subscribers' phones, the Information and Public Relations Centre of the KGB informed BELTA. "In particular, about a thousand mobile subscribers in Belarus received messages stating that, allegedly, from January 8, 2013, the US dollar exchange rate would be Br14,340, and the euro exchange rate - Br18,116. The phone number belonging to the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus was indicated as the primary source of information by spoofing the real sender's address," the KGB explained. It has been preliminarily established that the messages were sent via a server located in India. "The incompetence of the perpetrators, as evidenced by the amounts in national currency indicated in the messages, which are not in circulation in Belarus (Br18,116), suggests their affiliation with a foreign state," the KGB also noted. The Information Technology Security Department of the KGB is conducting an investigation to identify the persons involved in this provocation.-0-
