Chairman of the Committee for State Control of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Yakobson does not rule out that the restriction on the import of freshwater fish fillet may be lifted in the near future. He stated this today, answering a question from a BELTA correspondent. "If the imported fish is in demand tens of times more than what is offered in return, then it is worth considering whether restrictions are needed. Barriers are unconvincing practice," believes the head of the control department. The CSC believes that based on the results of the first quarter, the interdepartmental commission needs to analyze the situation and possibly bring tilapia and pangasius back to the shelves. State Control has also sent analytical material to the government and formulated proposals for expanding the range of products from domestic fish. At the same time, Alexander Yakobson emphasized that the CSC intends to continue analyzing foreign economic activity and identify cases of unjustified imports. As BELTA reported, since the beginning of the current year, by the decision of the interdepartmental commission for the determination of importers of freshwater fish and products of fish and seafood processing, the import of pangasius and tilapia fillet, which are freshwater fish, was temporarily banned in Belarus. -0-
