An agreement on social support for veterans, persons affected by the consequences of war, the elderly, and disabled individuals has been concluded between the Department for Labour, Employment and Social Protection of the District Executive Committee and the district organisation of the public association of veterans. It provides for participation in the financing of events held by the district organisation of the public association of veterans in accordance with its statutory activities. This year, 8.5 million roubles have already been transferred from the budget for these purposes.
Annually, cultural and mass events are held dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of Soldiers-Internationalists, Victory Day, Independence Day, the International Day of Older Persons, and the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. For example, on the eve of the Day of Remembrance of Soldiers-Internationalists, representatives of district organisations and services survey the living conditions of disabled veterans of the Afghanistan war and families of fallen soldiers. On this day itself, memorial services are organised in churches, the district leadership meets with family members of the fallen, they are provided with financial assistance, and flowers are laid at the memorials to the Fatherland defenders.
For the 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, former front-line veterans, partisans, and underground fighters were paid financial assistance totalling 22 million roubles, and congratulatory postcards were sent to them.
This year, in preparation for the new heating season, 12.9 million roubles were allocated from the local budget from the social protection fund for the population for stove repairs to 17 participants and disabled individuals of the Great Patriotic War and single citizens, and 100 thousand roubles were allocated to one single citizen for the replacement of electrical wiring.
