Bookstores should become centres of attraction for the creative intelligentsia. This opinion was expressed in Orsha by the Minister of Information, Aleksandr Karlukevich, at the opening of a new retail outlet of OJSC "Belkniga", as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
"Modern bookstores should become centres of attraction for the creative intelligentsia, for everyone who loves books. Serious attention should be paid to meetings between writers and readers," emphasised Aleksandr Karlukevich. He noted that the new "Belkniga" store in Orsha is precisely such a facility.
A special zone has been equipped here for such meetings. The first guests of the store were well-known Orsha writers, textbook authors Galina and Sergey Trafimovs, as well as graphic artist Nikolay Taranda.
Orsha was chosen as the location for the opening of the bookstore not by chance, stressed Aleksandr Karlukevich. "The Orsha district is included in the state programme for the socio-economic development of the regions of our country. Taking this into account, we reviewed the affairs and areas that fall within the scope of the Ministry of Information and the system for distributing printed publications. As a result, a good joint project has been implemented in the city with the support of the Orsha District Executive Committee, the Ministry of Information, and OJSC "Belkniga" – a large bookstore has opened. Similar facilities are planned to open in Baranovichi, Babruysk, and Borisov in the near future," he noted.
"This is a landmark event for the entire book market, reflecting all the aspirations of our publishers," said the minister.
The new bookstore is the third retail outlet of OJSC "Belkniga" in Orsha and the 15th in the Vitebsk region (the company's store network includes over 100 outlets across the country). The range of literature presented includes about 15,000 book items, including fiction and socially significant publications. Children's and educational materials, books from Belarusian publishers, and literary novelties are widely represented. The store has created 10 jobs.
