On the eve of the New Year holidays (December 22), the Yakub Kolas National Academic Drama Theatre in Vitebsk will premiere the play "Pippi" based on the work of Astrid Lindgren, the theatre informed BELTA.

Traditionally, the Kolas Theatre stages a new play before the New Year. This year, children and parents will be able to get acquainted with the story of Pippi Longstocking in a theatrical interpretation.

"The restless girl arrives in her hometown at Villa Villekulla. Red-haired like the sun, a fantasist, she refuses to submit to social traditions and patterns, or to do as she is told. And therefore, Pippi changes the world around her, colours it with bright colours, and with her inventions reminds us that each of us was a child not so long ago. Children dance and sing to her energy, and adults are ready to forget about their daily problems," the theatre explained.

The play is being worked on by director Irina Tishkevich, set designer Roman Boyarintsev, composer Vladislav Serpinsky, and ballet master Diana Yurchenko. The main role of Pippi will be performed by young Vitebsk actress Anna Dubchenko. The libretto by Yuliy Kim, based on the works of the Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren, was taken as the dramaturgical basis for the play. The libretto was translated and the song lyrics were written by Petr Laman.

The story of a small and daring girl will be told by Vitebsk actors. The play features Artyom Geryak, Yulia Krashevskaya, Honoured Artist of Belarus Galina Bukatina, Timur Zhusupov, Vladislav Zhuravlev, Petr Laman, Georgy Loyko, Artyom Blokhin, Honoured Artist of Belarus Tatyana Likhacheva, Honoured Artist of Belarus Viktor Dashkevich, and German Dymaretskiy.

After the performance, a New Year's show will take place around the Christmas tree.
