The love story in two acts on the Kolas stage was directed by Honoured Artist of Russia Yuri Pakhomov. The premiere of the play, based on the well-known play "Butterflies Are Free" by American playwright Leonard Gersh, will take place on July 30. It is worth noting that Yuri Pakhomov also provided the musical arrangement for the play. Incidentally, the theatre concluded the previous season with a production by the same director (based on John Patrick's play "The Curious Savage").
The new production is primarily aimed at young people, but will also be of interest to parents of adult children. It is a story about the complex relationships between people whose actions are driven by love. "It will be useful for the older generation to look at the timeless issue of fathers and children from the outside. Perhaps this story will help parents better understand their grown-up, but still very young offspring," the theatre noted.
The creators of the play invite the audience to try to find answers together to the questions: what is freedom, whether a child should be overprotected, what is most important in life, and how not to lose sincerity and kindness under the pressure of life's failures.
The cast includes Honoured Artist of Belarus Tatyana Likhacheva, and actors Roman Solovyov, Anastasia Revchenko, and Alexander Bazuk.
Incidentally, Yuri Pakhomov has a long and successful collaboration with the Vitebsk theatre. The director has staged such audience-favourite plays at the Kolas stage as "He. She. Window. The Deceased.", "The Plague on Both Your Houses", "The Taming of the Shrew", and "A Prayer for the Dead".
