Fewer wheels, greater danger!

Under this slogan, on April 29, a Unified Day of Road Traffic Safety will be held throughout our country. All events carried out by public security police officers within the framework of this unified day will be aimed at preventing and averting road traffic accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles.

Today, we would like to address drivers who operate so-called "small vehicles" - motorcycles and mopeds. This is due to the fact that in recent days, road traffic accident reports have been literally teeming with cases of accidents involving motorcyclists.

A motorcycle, in skilled hands and with a serious attitude towards it, is quite reliable. However, the vulnerable points of this vehicle are its instability and a longer braking distance than that of a car. Therefore, it must be used with caution and prudence. But what is actually happening?

Although the Traffic Regulations strictly specify the speed, both within and outside populated areas, one can often see such "thrill-seekers" who rush along the roads, forgetting all caution, overtaking vehicles both on the right and on the left, changing direction without giving warning signals, and driving motorcycles while intoxicated and without protective helmets. As a result, they themselves and their passengers die or get injured.

It is regrettable, but the arguments of traffic police officers do not always reach the consciousness of these unfortunate drivers. Most often, it happens that the meaning of the warning is understood by many only when the irreparable has already occurred. The situation with accidents involving motorcycles is particularly serious in rural areas, where it is very difficult to monitor motorcyclists.

We would like to touch upon another aspect of the problem of accidents among motorcyclists. Today, it is no longer surprising that parents buy their sons, who have not yet reached the age of sixteen, mopeds and even motorcycles, entrusting them with their two-wheeled vehicles. At the same time, not everyone asks the questions: where will their son learn to ride a moped or motorcycle, is he sufficiently disciplined and strict with himself? Often, for some reason, people forget to register motorcycles with the traffic police and present them for technical inspection.

The State Automobile Inspectorate, naturally, takes measures to stop teenagers from driving mopeds and motorcycles. The police ascertain from them whose motorcycle it is, why it is not registered, and draw up administrative protocols. But let's be frank, even these measures do not always solve the problem. And, how often a police officer is not on the path of the young driver.

It is possible to prevent similar emergencies in the future. But, to cope with this problem, no one should remain indifferent: neither the public, nor the school, and most importantly, the family.

The State Automobile Inspectorate draws the attention of motorcycle enthusiasts to the fact that the decisive condition for safe motorcycle trips is strict adherence to the Traffic Regulations.

One must always remember that a motorcyclist is less protected than a car driver, whose body can protect them from injuries. When operating a motorcycle, the driver and their passengers, in accordance with the Traffic Regulations, are obliged to wear fastened motorcycle helmets.

Therefore, do not forget to fasten your motorcycle helmet, a device that can save your life and reduce the severity of injuries in accidents.

Always give way to pedestrians in places where they have priority of movement, gesture for them to proceed if they are hesitant.

Ride your motorcycle in such a way that you have time to assess the traffic situation and take the necessary actions to ensure traffic safety.

Remember that the driver's worst enemy is alcohol.
