On December 8, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. The number of higher education institutions participating in the International Student Slavic Forum will increase. This was announced today at a press conference dedicated to the opening of the first forum by Vladimir Terentyev, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
"Currently, five higher education institutions from the Vitebsk region and three from the Smolensk region are participating in the forum. Negotiations have been held with higher education institutions from St. Petersburg and Veliky Novgorod regarding their participation. Ukrainian higher education institutions have also shown interest. Thus, in May, we expect to see representatives from Oles Honchar Dnipro National University among the forum participants," said Vladimir Terentyev. He emphasized that any higher education institution wishing to join the forum can do so at any time, considering the continuous nature of its events, as it is created to foster student communication and inter-university ties.
"Today we are taking the first step, but the interest in this event is already enormous," noted the Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
The I International Student Slavic Forum is held with the aim of strengthening the unity of Slavic peoples, preserving the system of Slavic values, and enhancing cooperation in scientific, educational, cultural, and sports activities.
Today, the "Vitebsk" Concert Hall is hosting its first official event – a grand concert-presentation, featuring the management and creative youth of Polotsk State University (PSU), Vitebsk State Technological University (VSTU), Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov, Vitebsk Academy of Veterinary Medicine, Vitebsk State Medical University, Smolensk State University, Smolensk Medical Academy, and Smolensk Academy of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism. Greetings to the forum participants were also sent by Oles Honchar Dnipro National University (Ukraine), whose representatives were unable to travel to Vitebsk.Further events will be held until May at sports, creative, and scientific venues in Vitebsk and Smolensk. Thus, according to the developed plan, a competition among universities for the development of the forum's logo will be announced in the near future. In March 2013, the International Inter-university Intellectual Games Cup will be held at Smolensk universities, along with the inter-university "Healthy Lifestyle University" project competition and sports competitions in streetball, kettlebell lifting, and arm wrestling. Throughout April, student youth will be united by creative workshops and the scientific-practical conference "Youth. Intellect. Initiative." VSU named after P.M. Masherov acts as the coordinator of all projects from the Belarusian side, and Smolensk State University from the Russian side.
The final events of the I International Student Slavic Forum will be held in May in Vitebsk. -0-
