“Kolyada Days” are being held at the Lepel Regional Museum of Local Lore with the participation of the folk club “Kruhoverť”.
A warm atmosphere, Christmas carols, and a real Kolyada – this is how the day turned out for all the participants of the celebration.Kolyada is a joyous holiday, an ancient Slavic folk tradition. Our ancestors prepared for the holiday in advance. Students from schools in Lepel and the district, as well as from the I.M. Yerashov Gymnasium, learned how this happened and how Kolyada was celebrated in the Lepel region.
By the way, students from the "Historical Local Lore" interest group of the gymnasium assisted museum staff in organizing and arranging the educational and entertainment program.
What dishes should be on the festive table, how the carolling ritual is performed, what is the symbol of "Kolyada" – children were told about many festive traditions.
One could also "reinforce knowledge" in practice – by participating in the "Zhanitsba Tsyareshki" ritual, performing thematic songs, and telling fortunes about the future.
The event featured bright and memorable characters of traditional Christmas celebrations: the Bear, the Devil, the Star-bearer, and, of course, the Goat – the main symbol of Christmas carols, a symbol of fertility and a rich harvest.
Participants sang cheerful winter songs and received treats in contests.
