As of the morning of May 26, 99.5 thousand hectares of corn have been sown in the region (20 thousand hectares more than in 2019), or 83% of the plan. This stage of work has been practically completed in Dokshytsy, Tolochin, and Chashniki districts. The sowing of this crop in the region is planned to be fully completed by the end of May. The area sown with annual grasses is 22.4 thousand hectares (85.6% of the plan), and buckwheat – 263 hectares (86.7%). This year, the sowing of millet for grain in the northern region has reached 1.8 thousand hectares, which is 4.5 times the target set by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, and is due to a rational approach to the use of available arable land.
According to specialists, this week the agricultural workers of the region have started fodder harvesting. The farms in Dubroŭna, Tolochin, Sharkawshchyna, and Vitebsk districts were the first to engage in this work. Primarily, rapeseed for silage and cover crops are being harvested and packed in polymer film. A set of care works is also being carried out: chemical weeding of spring cereals, cruciferous crops, corn, and flax, as well as measures aimed at pest and disease control.
