Farmers in the Vitebsk region will begin harvesting the first cut of grass next week, according to the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
The area for the first cut totals 240 thousand hectares. Individual farms in the southern part of the region will be the first to start harvesting.
In total, this year, the region's farmers plan to harvest 134.3 thousand tons of hay, almost 2.3 million tons of silage, and 2 million tons of haylage.
Corn sowing is ongoing in the region. This crop already covers 97 thousand hectares, or 81% of the plan. Sowing is practically complete in the Dokshitsky district (98% of the plan), followed closely by the Tolochinsky, Lepelsky, and Chashniksky districts, with only 6% of the areas remaining.
Rainy weather, which has prevailed this week, has been a limiting factor for farmers in the northern region.
