From January 19 to 25, State Automobile Inspectorate officers will be conducting a set of preventive measures titled "Save a Child's Life!" across the Vitebsk region.
The State Automobile Inspectorate appeals to parents: find time to review the basic rules of safe behaviour on the street with your child, revise the Traffic Regulations with young pedestrians and cyclists, and do not forget to supervise teenagers' leisure activities, remembering the importance of personal example. Additionally, parents must remember to transport children safely in cars. Children under 12 years of age must be transported using child restraint systems. All occupants of the vehicle must wear seat belts.
It is important to note another point, especially for drivers, as the vast majority of accidents involving children are caused by adults. To avoid tragedy, drivers must be extremely careful when manoeuvring in courtyards and when approaching pedestrian crossings. Remember that children are very mobile and impulsive; many do not yet know how to foresee danger or correctly assess the traffic situation. Therefore, upon seeing children near the roadway, reduce your speed and be prepared to stop at any moment.
The State Automobile Inspectorate reminds that parents bear responsibility for their children and urges adults to always observe the traffic regulations to serve as a proper example for the younger generation.
