"At the end of September, the Gosatomnadzor Commission of Belarus will begin work at the plant to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the NPP's readiness for fuel delivery," Sergey Nistratov said. He specified that specialists will have to assess the completion of the main facilities involved in receiving and temporarily storing fuel, the transport infrastructure at the construction site, and the physical security facilities. An IAEA inspection is also expected in October this year.
Before the fuel delivery, the Belarusian NPP will have to obtain a permit for the import of nuclear materials to the site. The relevant documents are already under review by Gosatomnadzor.
The Belarusian NPP is being built according to a standard Russian VVER-1200 design of the "3+" generation near Ostrovets (Grodno Region). The first power unit is planned to be commissioned in 2019, and the second in 2020. The first delivery of nuclear fuel to the plant is scheduled by ASE Engineering Company before the end of 2018.
