Since the beginning of the year, a competition for the best sculptural composition "To the Children of War" has been announced in the district. The Executive Committee and the district organization of the public association "Belarusian Peace Foundation" are awaiting ideas and proposals from all interested parties until March 3. It is planned that the sculpture will be installed in Miory (near Lenin Square) in 2017.
"The Great Patriotic War left a deep mark on Belarusian land, and we want to particularly honour those people whose childhoods were spent in the harsh forties. The idea of creating a sculptural composition emerged last year when we organised a large concert at the RDC for the district's residents born in the 1930s. The event, focusing on the children's perspective on the war, turned out to be very touching. Following this meeting with people whose childhood was treacherously stolen, the decision was made to create a thematic sculptural composition," the organisers said.
