A national competition of works on bioethics is being held in Belarus, BELTA was informed by the press service of the Ministry of Health.
Students and undergraduates of higher education institutions (both individually and in an author's team of no more than three people) interested in bioethics issues (human rights in the field of biomedicine) can take part. For example, one can consider how the development of science and technology in areas such as organ and tissue transplantation, genetics and genomics, neuroscience, biomedical research, etc., affects the rights and freedoms of individuals.
Works can be submitted in three nominations: "Essay", "Video Material (video clip)", "Poster". They should be dedicated to discussing, explaining, and promoting issues of human rights compliance and ethical support of biomedicine. Participants are invited to identify a problem, fully disclose the topic and bioethical issues.
The competition jury, consisting of leading experts in the field of bioethics, will, among other things, pay attention to the quality of execution, artistic value, and originality of the execution technique.
Works should be submitted to the Organizing Committee's email address: bioethicscompetition@gmail.com. Videos can be sent by email or uploaded to an accessible platform (e.g., YouTube or Google Drive) with a link sent to this email.
The aim of the competition, which runs until July 1, is to raise awareness of the principles enshrined in the Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine (Oviedo Convention) and to encourage public discussion on key issues of human rights protection in this area. This document protects the dignity and identity of all people and guarantees everyone respect for their integrity without discrimination. The Convention is considered an international legal act on patient rights and, in particular, addresses issues of biomedical research, genetics, and organ and tissue transplantation.
The competition is organised by the Ministry of Health of Belarus, the Republican Bioethics Committee in conjunction with the Bioethics Department of the Council of Europe, with the support of the Council of Europe Information Point in Minsk.
