A contraband shipment of cigarettes equipped with GPS navigation has been seized in Polotsk, Denis Glebko, assistant head of the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment, informed a BELTA correspondent. At the "Bigosovo" checkpoint at Polotsk station, while processing a freight train traveling from Belarus to Latvia, Polotsk border guards, together with employees of the Polotsk Department of Internal Affairs on Transport and customs officers, discovered 32 boxes of cigarettes hidden under coal in two wagons. A GPS device was also found with the cigarette shipment, which the smugglers used to track the movement of their goods. As Denis Glebko noted, this case stands out from similar incidents as it is the first time smugglers have used navigation to track the movement of cargo. The value of the cigarettes is estimated at Br61.2 million. Individuals involved in this offense are being identified. -0-
