On August 20, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Contraband cigarettes worth almost Br90 million were detained at the Polotsk railway station, Denis Glebko, assistant head of the Polotsk border guard detachment, told a BELTA correspondent. Border guards, together with customs officers and employees of the internal affairs department on transport, discovered 29,000 packs of "Premier" cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps in a train en route from Vitebsk to Daugavpils. The total cost of the cigarettes, according to preliminary data, amounted to almost Br90 million. The contraband has been seized. An investigation is underway regarding this fact. As Denis Glebko noted, since the beginning of the year, servicemen of the Polotsk border guard detachment have recorded 83 attempts to illegally move goods and materials across the state border worth Br2.8 billion, including in 54 cases, smugglers attempted to transport cigarettes, their cost amounted to Br2.4 billion. -0-
