On December 7, the Vitebsk State Musical College named after I.I. Sollertinsky will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a grand concert. The jubilee celebration will take place in the college's concert hall and will bring together current teachers, veterans of pedagogical work, and many lovers of classical music, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by the head of the educational institution, Anatoly Gretsky.
"Pianist Andrey Manulik, a laureate of international competitions, oboist Sergey Tumarkin, a senior lecturer at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music, and Ekaterina Mochalova, the leading domra player in Russia, will perform on stage. Ex-soloists of the ensembles "Pesniary" Vyacheslav Isachenko and "Chisty Golos" Alexander Kostitsyn will demonstrate their skills," said Anatoly Gretsky.
During the celebration, representatives of the Ministry of Culture and the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee will honour college representatives and labour veterans. Two individuals will receive the badge of honour of the Ministry of Culture "For Contribution to the Development of Culture of Belarus".
In October 1918, a People's Conservatory was opened in Vitebsk, with conductor Nikolai Malko, invited from St. Petersburg, as its first director. A few years later, the conservatory became a technical school with three departments (performance, scientific-theoretical, and instrumental-pedagogical), and then a college. In 1991, the educational institution was named after Ivan Sollertinsky, a native of Vitebsk, musicologist, and educator. In 2010, the college was renamed. The educational institution trains teachers, orchestra and choir artists, and leaders of creative groups. Applicants are admitted to three specialities: "Conducting", "Instrumental Performance", and "Musicology".
