While the cross is in the cathedral, akathists will be read: after the morning service – an akathist to Saint Euphrosyne, Abbess of Polotsk; at 12:00 PM – an akathist to the Honourable and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord; at 3:00 PM – to Saint Euphrosyne, Abbess of Polotsk; after the evening service – an akathist to the Honourable and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord.
The relic was delivered to Vitebsk precisely at noon. Many townspeople came to the solemn reception at the Holy Assumption Cathedral.
The altar cross was commissioned by Saint Euphrosyne of Polotsk for the Saviour Monastery in Polotsk by the master Lazare Bohsha in 1161. During the Great Patriotic War, the Cross of Saint Euphrosyne disappeared without a trace. An exact copy was recreated by the Brest artist-jeweller Nikolai Kuzmich in 1997. On the eve of the universal Exaltation of the Honourable and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, the recreated Cross of Euphrosyne was solemnly brought to the Polotsk Saviour Monastery.
