The Vitebsk State College of Culture and Arts hosted an award ceremony for the laureates of the regional stage of the republican competition "Woman of the Year - 2018", reports a BELTA correspondent.
Galina Zhelanova, Chairperson of the Vitebsk Regional Organization of the Belarusian Women's Union, noted that women from all districts of the region took part in the regional stage. As a result, 23 residents of the region were recognised in five nominations: "Leadership and Successful Management", "Active Life Stance", "Maternal Glory", "Mistress of the Village", and "Spirituality and Culture". "A lot rests on these wonderful women. They are mistresses at home, leaders at work, and actively participate in public affairs. In total, over 15,000 women are members of the Belarusian Women's Union in the Vitebsk region," noted Galina Zhelanova.
Among the awardees is Natalia Oleshkovskaya, a mother of many children from Chashniki. Her close-knit family has 11 children – 5 biological and 6 adopted. Some are already adults, studying at universities, and have started their own families. "Our first adopted children were our own nephews who found themselves in a difficult situation. Then several more girls appeared, who stayed with us for a year and we adopted them; recently, four more little ones came to us. For my husband and I, it is a joy that the children get along well together and have become a strong support for us," said the mother of many children.
Many nominees are convinced, and have proven by their example, that self-realisation, family, and an active life stance are compatible for a modern woman who can be successful in all spheres and endeavours. One such woman is Elena Metelitsa, director of the Sennenskaya Centralised Library System and a laureate of the regional stage of the competition in the "Active Life Stance" nomination. She is an organiser and participant of various patriotic, sports, and social campaigns in the region. "The preparation of a collection of memoirs of veterans of the Great Patriotic War from the Sennensky district became important for me. We visited them, congratulated them on holidays, and gathered the necessary material. Unfortunately, more than half of the veterans have passed away recently, but their memory will live on for future generations in such a collection," is confident Elena Metelitsa.
