Laureates of the honorary title "Person of the Year of the Vitebsk Region" will be determined in five nominations starting from 2017, instead of the previously established twenty, BELTA was informed by the Main Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of the regional executive committee.

The number of laureates has also been reduced: 50 representatives of various professions and fields of activity will receive awards, instead of 100. This is stipulated by the new instruction on the procedure for conducting the regional competition for the awarding of the honorary title "Person of the Year of the Vitebsk Region", approved by the decision of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee dated October 5, 2017, No. 614.

"Despite the fact that the document has optimized the number of nominations, candidates for the awarding of the honorary title will, as before, be identified in all sectors of the national economy," the department emphasized. Henceforth, the professional achievements of the best representatives of work collectives, organizations, and institutions of the cities and districts of the region will be recognized in the nominations: "Industry, Trade and Services, Financial Activities, Small and Medium-sized Businesses", "Agro-industrial Complex, Environmental Protection, Forestry", "Housing and Communal Services and Road Management, Construction and Architecture, Fuel and Energy Complex, Communications, Transport and Logistics", "Social Sphere (Social Protection of the Population, Culture, Education, Science, Sports, Healthcare, Youth)", "Ensuring Legality and Law and Order, Prevention and Elimination of Emergency Situations, Activities of Local Government Bodies and Self-Government, Public Organizations".

Among the main criteria for awarding the honorary title are the significance, relevance, and effectiveness of the results of activities, production indicators, and professional and business qualities of professionals in their field. Candidates for victory are determined based on the results of work during the year. Documents for their nomination are accepted at city and district executive committees on a territorial basis until January 1. Winners of the competition will be awarded the honorary title with a special diploma and a monetary reward. The names of the winners for the current year will be announced at the beginning of 2018.

The competition in the Vitebsk region has been held since 2009 with the aim of stimulating creative work, promoting innovative ideas, and advanced experience. It is designed to emphasize the value of the merits and achievements of the region's residents and their contribution to the common cause of regional development. The honorary title "Person of the Year of Vitebsk Region" has already been awarded to 900 people.

Detailed information about the competition is posted on the official website of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee in the "Competitions" section.
