Medical institutions of the Vitebsk region will receive equipment and medical technology worth more than Br200 billion in 2012 from all sources of funding. This was announced today at a meeting of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee by the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets, reports a BELTA correspondent. The governor demanded that the purchased equipment comply with modern trends in the development of medicine. The head of the healthcare department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Yuri Derkach, named a linear accelerator for the regional oncology dispensary and 88 ambulances for emergency medical teams among the most significant acquisitions funded by the regional budget. The region will receive a tomograph for the regional children's clinical hospital worth Br12 billion, as well as a radiotherapy complex, a mammograph, and video endoscopic equipment for the oncology service, funded by the republican budget. In total, Br97.1 billion is allocated for equipping the region with medical equipment under state programs, and Br15 billion for medical supplies. Technical re-equipment of the sector and strengthening of the material base of healthcare institutions have created conditions in the region for a sustainable decrease in overall mortality by 3.7% in 2011, and mortality in the working-age population by 1.5%.
