Ivan Petrovich Maskalkov, Head of the Lepel District Department for Emergency Situations, held a meeting with the work collective of the Lepel District Gas Supply Department. During his address, Ivan Petrovich informed the attendees about the operational situation regarding fires in the Vitebsk region and the Lepel district. He then analysed the causes of the majority of fires, reminding those present that the human factor plays a decisive role.

During the winter period, the number of fires increases due to violations of fire safety rules when operating stove heating. Therefore, the rescuer urged citizens to bring stoves in their households into proper condition, and also to observe the rules for using domestic boilers and electrical equipment. He also drew attention to the importance of purchasing, installing, and maintaining autonomous fire detectors in working order.

Furthermore, the issue of preventing fires caused by children's mischief with fire was acutely discussed during the address. In order to prevent accidents, the rescuer urged not to leave children at home alone, not to allow them to play with matches and electrical appliances, to teach them safety rules and actions in case of fire, and, of course, the procedure for calling the fire and rescue service.

Ivan Petrovich placed special emphasis on the topic of venturing onto unsafe ice, reminding that overconfidence and a passion for fishing, under conditions of unstable ice cover on water bodies and rivers, can lead to tragedy.

In connection with the approaching spring fire hazard season, the representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reminded those present about the prohibition of burning dry vegetation and the rules for lighting fires on household plots.

At the conclusion of the meetings, the gas service employees were presented with the mobile application "Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus: Help is Nearby" and were given educational leaflets and brochures.
