Lepel has taken over the baton for hosting the Republican patriotic event "Roads of Courage and Resilience".

The republican patriotic campaign "On the Roads of Courage and Resilience" is taking place in settlements of Belarus awarded the pennant "For Courage and Resilience during the Great Patriotic War". In essence, this is the Belarusian equivalent of the title "Hero City". 20 cities, including Lepel, six urban-type settlements, and one village, have been honoured with this distinction.

Representatives of the local authorities, the Lepel Deanery, labour collectives of the district, representatives of public organisations and associations, as well as other concerned residents of Lepel gathered in the hall of the district House of Culture.

The speakers included Igor Urban, Chairman of the District Council of Deputies, Elena Borodeiko, Head of the Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of the District Executive Committee, and Alexander Klimovich, Deputy Commander for Ideological Work of Military Unit 28443.

— The patriotic campaign "On the Roads of Courage and Resilience" started in Belarus on June 20 and was initiated by the state-public association "Znanie". The campaign will cover 27 cities and settlements awarded the pennant "For Courage and Resilience during the Great Patriotic War". Among them is Lepel, — Elena Borodeiko began the meeting.

Next, a film prepared by the district museum of local lore and Lepel Television was shown for the audience. On the big screen, there were harrowing footage of burnt villages in the Lepel district and bitter facts of that terrible war.

— We must remember this! Our district is one of those places where the war left an irreparable mark on history. According to archive data, 4,700 people were killed in the Lepel region during the war, including 1,600 women and 550 children. 903 people were taken to Germany for forced labour. The campaign "On the Roads of Courage and Resilience" calls on us to remember our countrymen who took up arms to defend the Motherland, peace, and a bright future during the war. We must know and honour our history, our heroes. This campaign is a call to speak the truth, — emphasised Igor Urban.

Alexander Klimovich, a representative of the military unit, also addressed the audience.
