In order to prevent accidents on thin, unhardened ice, employees of the Lepel District Department for Emergency Situations, together with a representative of the water rescue society and the editor of the district newspaper "Lepelsky Krai", conducted a preventive raid on winter fishing spots.
During communication with ice fishing enthusiasts, special attention was paid to the mandatory presence of life jackets and improvised rescue equipment. All fishermen were informed of the sad facts of people's deaths due to carelessness and overconfidence, reminded of the basic safety measures on the ice, the procedure for actions in case of an emergency, methods of rescue from water, and elements of first aid.
In turn, the representative of the water rescue organisation drew attention to the fact that brave fishing enthusiasts do not even have basic rescue equipment with them. After talking to everyone encountered on the water bodies, one could hear in response: "Nothing will happen to me, I go on the ice every year, in any weather!".
Therefore, to prevent trouble, the representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations once again reminded that safety measures must be observed, before going on the ice, one should make sure that it is sufficiently thick and strong, and most importantly, have rescue equipment for the ice with them.
