Ivan Petrovich Maskalkov, Head of the Lepel District Department for Emergency Situations, held a meeting with the teaching and technical staff of the Lepel Agrarian-Technical College. During his speech, Ivan Petrovich informed the attendees about the operational situation regarding fires in the region and the Lepel district. He then analysed the causes of the majority of fires, reminding those present that the human factor plays a decisive role.

During the presentation, special attention was paid to the maintenance of evacuation routes and the operation of electrical equipment and appliances. The Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) representative also provided information on fires caused by children's pranks, reminding attendees of the inadmissibility of leaving children unattended.

The basic fire safety rules in everyday life were explained in detail, with emphasis placed on the need to install autonomous fire detectors, as they help to detect fires in a timely manner and save not only property but also one's own life – and there are many examples of this.

Ivan Petrovich paid special attention to the topic of venturing onto unsafe ice, reminding that overconfidence and a passion for fishing, in conditions of melting ice cover on reservoirs and rivers, can lead to tragedy.

In connection with the approaching spring fire hazard season, the MES representative reminded attendees of the prohibition of burning dry vegetation and the rules for lighting fires on household plots.

At the end of the meeting, the college staff were presented with the mobile application "MES Belarus: Help is Nearby" and were given educational leaflets and brochures.
