Lepel residents gathered at the mass grave, where 18 Red Army soldiers are buried – 17 of them shot by German occupants in 1918, and one tortured by Polish interventionists in 1919 – to honour the memory of the heroes.

— More than 100 years have passed since the beginning of the First World War. More than one generation has grown up who have never known, and we hope never will know, the horrors of war. But the feats accomplished by the soldiers will forever remain in our memory, — noted those present at the rally. — Through joint efforts, we must carefully preserve and pass on to future generations the memory of the great achievements of the generation of victors; each of us must work to ensure that our state becomes more prosperous every year.

On this significant day, workers were also honoured. The Lepel region celebrated the district holiday "Dozhynki" (Harvest Festival), congratulating agricultural workers on the completion of the harvesting campaign and, of course, honouring the grain growers who bring glory to our native land and Belarus with their labour victories.

Combine operators, machine operators, drivers, grain drying complex operators, and farm managers worked on weekdays and weekends, from early morning until sunset, to gather the gold of the fields. On this festive day, all of them received certificates, letters of appreciation, and monetary bonuses from the hands of government officials.

Holidays always involve gifts. In Lepel, in honour of the Day of National Unity, a new public garden named "September 17" was solemnly opened on Ulyanka Street, which has every chance of becoming a favourite leisure spot for Lepel residents and guests of our city.

And in the evening, a grand musical festival of National Unity took place.
