Last week, Lepel district welcomed distinguished guests – participants of the interdepartmental working group for visiting social sector facilities.

The working group included Igor Petrishenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Irina Kostevich, Minister of Labour and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus, her deputy Alexander Rumak, and Dmitry Pinevich, First Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Belarus. Among our distinguished guests were also Alexander Kadlubay, Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus, Elena Malyatina, Deputy Head of the Human Potential Development, State and Financial Services Department of the Main Economic Department of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Penin, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, and other responsible officials.

The first facility visited by the working group members was the state educational institution "Correctional and Developmental Education and Rehabilitation Centre of Lepel". Currently, this institution is one of the best in the Vitebsk region for organising work with children with disabilities.

On the same day, the guests visited the centre for social and labour, social and domestic, and physical rehabilitation of disabled persons of the Lepel district. Currently, this is the only institution of its kind in the republic. Upon visiting the centre, attendees forget all their problems and difficulties. They develop their creative abilities, engage in sewing, embroidery, create original souvenirs, and delight audiences with their vocal performances. In the centre's rooms, each visitor engages in their respective activity. The most important thing is that each disabled person feels like a full member of society. A vivid proof of this was the wonderful exhibition prepared by the teams of territorial centres for social services to the population of the Vitebsk region, boarding houses, etc., in the foyer of the district House of Culture.

The main task of social service institutions in our country is to create all possible conditions for people with disabilities to feel needed by society, — noted the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Igor Petrishenko. — The experience of social sector institutions in the Lepel district in this direction has been recognised as the best. However, at the same time, it is very important to ensure close interaction between institutions working with people with disabilities at different stages: from childhood to adulthood. Only in this way will we be able to create a normal adaptation process for people with disabilities and give them the opportunity to perceive life in all its diversity.
