In the fishing grounds within the Vitebsk region, a ban on fishing for Wels catfish is established from May 31 to July 1.

It is prohibited not only to catch catfish by any fishing gear but also to be within 1 kilometre of the shoreline of the fishing grounds with it.

Administrative liability entails a fine ranging from 20 to 50 base units for catching catfish, and for being with it – from 5 to 30 base units. In addition, for each catfish caught, the offender is obliged to compensate for the environmental damage, calculated at three times the amount, namely 12 base units (384 rubles). In case the damage from illegal fishing amounts to 100 or more base units, criminal liability may arise.
