The "Zhemchuzhina" Children's Rehabilitation and Health Improvement Centre in Lepel District plans to increase the number of children undergoing health improvement under the Union State programme in 2020, as reported to BelTA by the centre's director, Vera Zakrevskaya.

This year, 280 children from Bryansk, Kaluga, and Tula regions of Russia, and Gomel, Mogilev, and Brest regions of Belarus were able to improve their health at the health resort under the Union State programme. It is planned that in 2020, the centre will receive 100 more children.

"Since 2004, 'Zhemchuzhina' has been one of the permanent implementers of the Union State programme for the organisation of treatment and health improvement for children from the regions of Belarus and Russia most affected by the Chernobyl NPP disaster. During this time, our centre has gained extensive experience in providing preventive, therapeutic, and health improvement care for children, and a strong material, technical, and medical base has been established, which allows for comprehensive rehabilitation of children and adolescents according to individual programmes," the centre's head emphasised.

Regarding the demand for the Lepel health resort, Vera Zakrevskaya noted that in recent years, "Zhemchuzhina" has become a regular venue for a number of Russian educational projects related to the Olympiad movement. For example, from November to December this year, the centre will host about 800 children under four such programmes. 370 of them are participants of the international olympiad in experimental physics from six countries. The olympiad will be held at "Zhemchuzhina" from November 23 to 30. Next year is also almost fully booked.

"It is very important that, in addition to individual health improvement and treatment programmes, children actively get acquainted with Belarus during their stay. Excursions to Belovezhskaya Pushcha, Brest Fortress, Polotsk, and to BelAZ are organised for them," noted Vera Zakrevskaya.

The material and technical base of the centre is strengthened annually. Currently, the most important project is the construction of a new dormitory building, which will expand the health resort's capabilities in providing sanatorium and health improvement services.-0-
