This year, the Lepel Regional Museum of Local Lore has once again brought fame to the Lepel region at the III National Forum "Museums of Belarus," held in Mogilev.
This year, the Lepel Regional Museum of Local Lore has once again brought fame to the Lepel region at the III National Forum "Museums of Belarus," held in Mogilev. At the II National Forum, the regional museum was awarded a Diploma "For Participation in the nomination 'Best Partnership Activities'." This year, the museum received an award in the nomination "Best Souvenir Printed Product of a Regional Museum." 120 museums from all over Belarus took part in the forum.
The competition within the framework of the forum was organised by the institution "Museum 'Mir Castle Complex'." Employees of the Lepel Regional Museum of Local Lore presented a series of souvenirs "Folk Motanka Doll" for the competition.
In ancient times, the tradition of making fabric dolls existed in all villages, with each doll having a specific symbol. They were called "swaddling dolls." Before creating the series of dolls, we studied special literature for a long time. For example, the souvenir "Traveller" is a charm for all travellers and motorists. "Treasury-Herbalist," filled with fragrant herbs and medicinal plants, protects homes from diseases. "Spring Maiden" symbolises youth and beauty. The souvenir "Day and Night" is placed on a window. During the day, the doll is displayed with its light side facing the window, and at night, with its dark side. Thus, it protects the dwelling. The doll "For Happiness" embodies female happiness. "Cabbage Doll," in the form of a married woman dressed in many skirts, symbolises female health. The doll "For a Successful Marriage" helps in attracting a groom... Museum employees Natalya Sharstuk and Anastasia Nyadbalskaya worked on creating the dolls. A total of nine souvenirs were made for the competition.
The dolls, dressed in colourful dresses, impressed numerous spectators. Guests of the festival showed keen interest in the handmade creations, learning about the ideas behind their creation.
In addition to the presented souvenirs, museum employees prepared a series of memorable contests for all guests. Adults and children enjoyed assembling puzzles featuring paintings by the renowned Lepel artist Vasily Zharnosek.
Besides the beautiful dolls, employees of the regional museum of local lore also participated in the competitive project for the best museum publication, where they presented the historical essay "Lepel Mortar School. 1941."
Following the competition, museum employees were awarded in the "Folk Motanka Doll" nomination. Along with the Diploma, they received a television set as a gift.
The museum employees have many interesting ideas and plans ahead, which, we are confident, will certainly be recognized in a number of prestigious competitions.
