Since 2022, the Local History Museum has been housed in a restored building constructed in 1897. The institution itself has a history spanning over 70 years and was established by a decision of the Council of Ministers of the BSSR on November 4, 1953. Today, the museum's collections comprise over 30,000 items.

The new permanent exhibition narrates the history and culture of the Lepel region across various periods. Active work is currently underway to populate the 10 interactive screens available in the museum.

For instance, many residents of Lepel have sat at a wooden school desk in the school hall, reminiscing about their school years and browsing a virtual school album. The interactive panel allows viewing photographs dating back to 1917, the history of school establishment, photos of graduates, unique educational documents, and much more.

The "Museum of Photography" exhibition features numerous exhibits dedicated to the history of photography in the Lepel region, as well as the evolution of cameras.

Overall, the museum plays an active role in preserving and transmitting cultural heritage, shaping national identity, and fostering the spiritual development of society. It is a place where people encounter history and art, the legacy of our ancestors.

In 2025, over 7,000 people visited the museum's permanent exhibition. The museum hosts approximately 20 exhibitions annually.

On October 30, the traditional exhibition "Farby Lepelshchyny" (Colours of the Lepel Region) will open for the 16th time. The first exhibition took place in October 1993. Over the past 32 years, it has featured around 100 artists and showcased over 1,000 paintings.

The staff of the Lepel District Local History Museum is responsible for preserving and presenting this heritage.

This year, the museum's team has been joined by two young specialists (an artist-designer and a junior researcher), who have been warmly welcomed by the staff. They face engaging work in studying the past of the Lepel region.
