Our Lepel region boasts a long and rich history of traditional arts and crafts, many of which are still practiced today. And how do you think these traditions have been preserved? Of course, thanks to the tremendous work of people who care deeply about the history and traditions of the region. A team of like-minded individuals, ready to dedicate day and night to the loom, pottery wheel, or other craft, works at the State Cultural Institution "Lepel Centre of Crafts".
The Centre began its work on January 30, 1992 – exactly 30 years ago. Throughout this period, the institution's staff have been collecting, preserving, and passing on the knowledge and traditions of folk crafts to the younger generation. Here, they not only engage in pottery and the sewing of traditional costumes but also provide visitors with the opportunity to experience craft technologies firsthand under the careful guidance of instructors. Furthermore, the masters can teach traditional Belarusian crafts: weaving, embroidery, wood carving, straw weaving, ceramics, sewing of Belarusian national costumes, and much more.
The activities of the Centre's employees are aimed at reviving and supporting traditional folk art, developing the creative abilities of children and adults, and introducing them to Belarusian culture and folk creativity. The Centre of Crafts also hosts masterclasses in various crafts, exhibitions of artisans and artists, photo sessions in a unique interior, and other celebratory events. A permanent exhibition of collections of towels, national costumes, weaving, and more is presented to visitors. Masters from the Centre of Crafts are regular participants in the International Festival of Arts "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk", the republican competition-festival "Spring Bouquet", the regional festival "Dozhynki", and others. The "Skarbonka" salon-shop operates at the Centre of Crafts, where you can purchase handmade souvenirs to your liking. Tourists particularly enjoy visiting the salon-shop to bring home something unusual and unique.
