30 March, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. A flying team for providing emotional support has been established in Polotsk District, as reported to BELTA correspondent by the Polotsk District Executive Committee.
The motto of this unique team is "Flying to the rescue!", its target audience is lonely elderly people, numbering over four hundred in the district, and the logo depicted on the vehicle is a cheerful bee with a gift. The core team consists of social workers, medical personnel, and a hairdresser. Two more "bees" are recruits selected specifically to ensure emotional engagement. Their selection will be based on the wishes of the person the team is visiting, from among members of the local veterans' organization, BRSM activists, the Red Cross, social service employees, etc. If interests and capabilities align, any person whom the elderly individual wishes to see can become a "bee". On average, a team visit will last about three hours. During this time, the "bees" will provide the necessary assistance to their charge, surround them with care and attention, and, of course, engage in ample conversation.
Requests for the flying team can be made completely free of charge. The first visit is scheduled for next week.
This new social service has been introduced by the territorial centre for social services for the population of Polotsk District after studying the need for it and public opinion. For now, it will be provided only once a week to lonely elderly people. The possibility of expanding the target groups and the number of visits will be considered after assessing the demand for the team's work.-0-
