The best reciters of Yanka Kupala's poems will be determined today at the regional poetry festival "Zvini, Spiavai, Kupalovskaya Lira!" in the village of Levki, Orsha District, as reported to BELTA correspondent by the Orsha District Executive Committee. The traditional venue for the regional poetry festival is the favourite dacha of the classic of Belarusian literature Yanka Kupala in the village of Levki. Currently, a branch of the Yanka Kupala Museum is located here. Thus, in the year of the 130th anniversary of the poet's birth, lovers and connoisseurs of his work, as well as poets, will gather on the banks of the Dnieper. Creative groups from Orsha, Braslav and Dokshytsy districts will perform for the festival guests. Masters of craft houses from Orsha, Orsha, Tolochin, Gorodok, Lepel districts, the centre of folk art and crafts of the village of Kopys, Vitebsk region, and Shklov district, Mogilev region, will take part in the festival. A poetry festival is impossible without books, so a library town with book and creative exhibitions will operate here. The central event of the festival will be the performance of poets and writers of the region. Guests will visit the branch house-museum and lay flowers at the monument to Yanka Kupala. The dacha in Levki was Yanka Kupala's favourite place. He came here every year in early spring and lived in this cosy house on the banks of the Dnieper until late autumn, writing a lot. During the war, the writer's dacha was destroyed. However, in 1945, the country's government decided to restore it and create a branch of the literary museum. The recreated house features a memorial exhibition, and in the building of the former Kopys forestry office, which has survived to this day, where Yanka Kupala stayed in the 1930s, there is a literary exhibition that highlights the life and work of the poet in the 1930s. The memorial complex includes outbuildings, a driver's house, a garage displaying Kupala's "Chevrolet" car. The sculptural composition "Poet's Autumn" by A. Anikeichik is one of the best monuments to the national poet and occupies a central place in the "Levki" memorial complex. In 1978, the government of Belarus decided to create the Kupala Memorial Reserve "Levki" with an area of 19 hectares. -0-
