President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko congratulated the people of the Federal Republic of Germany on their Day of Unity. This was reported to BELTA by the press service of the Belarusian leader.
The Head of State noted that the reunification of Germany in 1990 was made possible by an atmosphere of trust and constructive cooperation between the countries of the continent.
"The transition from confrontation to dialogue required brave, strategic decisions from all parties at that time. Unfortunately, the European Union is now pursuing an independent policy of confrontation towards a number of sovereign states. Brussels' only tool is unilateral economic and political pressure, which directly contradicts international law," the President pointed out.
Alexander Lukashenko stressed that the support of this course by official Berlin is harmful and absolutely does not correspond to the hopes of the two peoples, causing deep disappointment and justified rejection in Belarus, especially considering the terrible events and numerous victims on Belarusian soil during the Second World War.
"100 years after the establishment of diplomatic relations, Belarus, as before, is ready to develop cooperation with the FRG on the basis of equality and mutual respect. This will also contribute to strengthening regional security and stability," the congratulatory message reads.
On this festive day, the Head of State wished the German society peace and confidence in the future.
